Unemployment , labour market programmes and wage determination : Evidence from the Czech and
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper studies effects of unemployment and labour market programmes on real wages in the Czech and Slovak Republics using district panel data for the period 1992-1998. Clear evidence of a “wage curve” exists in both countries. The estimated unemployment elasticity of pay is, however, higher in the Slovak Republic, than in the Czech Republic. The wage subsidy and the public works programme exert upward pressure on real wages in Slovakia. When accounting for effects from adjacent districts, a positive significant effect of labour market programmes is also estimated for the Czech Republic. JEL classification: J31, J68, P39

Identifying treatment effects of active labour market programmes for Norwegian adults
We investigate treatment effects of active labour market programmes for Norwegian adults for the 1990 to 2000 period. Three types of active labour market programmes are evaluated within a competing risks hazard rate model. Non-parametric specifications on both duration dependence and unobserved heterogeneities are used. By utilising rich administrative data, we find that active labour market pr...

Equilibrium Unemployment with Outsourcing and Wage Solidarity Under Labour Market Imperfections We evaluate the effects of outsourcing and wage solidarity on wage formation and equilibrium unemployment in a heterogeneous labour market, where wages are determined by a monopoly labour union. We find that outsourcing promotes the wage dispersion between the high-skilled and low-skilled workers. Wh...

We study the role of labour and credit market imperfections for the determination of equilibrium unemployment. In the credit market loan contracts are negotiated between financiers and firms, both possessing bargaining power, while the firms and organized labour bargain over the base wage. The sequential labour and credit market negotiations are assumed to take place conditional on the firm hav...
متن کامل1 Unemployment in Weimar Germany January 2004
This paper contributes to the debate on the causes of unemployment in interwar Germany. It applies the Layard-Nickell model of the labour market to interwar Germany. The basic model is extended to capture the effects of the tariff wage under the Weimar Republic and the Nazis. The results of the estimation suggest that demand shocks combined with nominal inertia in the labour market were importa...
متن کاملUnemployment Rates and Starting Salaries: Are Australian Graduates at the Whim of the Wage Curve?
The existence of an inverse relationship between wage levels and regional unemployment rates, commonly referred to as the wage curve, is well established in the economic literature and was described by Card (1995) as being ‘close to an empirical law of economics’. This microeconomic wage–unemployment relationship, first identified by Blanchflower and Oswald (1994), has since been observed in mo...
